Getting Off The Emotional Roller Coaster With An Online Life Coach.
In my online life coaching practice, I find a lot of people are spending a great deal of their life on a roller coaster ride from hell – riding the emotional rails of highs and lows ad nauseum.
How about you, are you stuck with a ticket for a one way ride in your hand?
At nearly every turn, are you living in reaction to your emotions instead of responding to them with loving awareness?
Are you exhausted? Feeling self-absorbed, frustrated and a lot like a victim? Have you created story after story like this in your life? Have you missed out on experiences that could have turned into something graceful but sadly, more often than not, you got stuck in survival mode?
Have you ever considered that emotions are just another source of information? When you think about it, emotional dialogue really isn’t that much different than oral or written language.
Emotion is an expression, another form of energy in motion. But our society has created a lot of bias around “emotional energy.” Most of the prejudice surrounding “emotion” has been used to degrade and belittle.
For centuries women have been seen as “too emotional.” Being to “touchy feely” has been seen as weak. But slowly our culture is shifting and is now starting to honor the gift of emotional awareness. We are starting to understand the benefit of our “gut feelings” and “intuition”.
As an online life coach, I am continually encouraging people to listen to their intuition, their feelings. Many have shut them down for so long, it’s almost as if they have to learn to listen to this internal gift all over again. Trusting your instincts is as ancient as we a people. The human race survived by listening to their emotions and it is an important part of us.
Professional corporations are now seeking individuals who can “feel” the pulse of the company. And individuals are embracing the idea that stuffing or ignoring their feelings might just make them sick after all.
Are you ready to hone and fine tune your emotional awareness? Here are some helpful ways to begin.
First, simply acknowledge your feelings as information. I know that sounds so “over simplistic” – but by doing this you become curious instead of fearful which assists you in being less reactive. The more you practice “noticing your emotions as information”, the more you will be able to zoom in and out helping you to gain multiple perspectives.
This lessens your habit of projecting and transferring old experiences onto what is happening in the now.
By observing, with loving attention, you will find you don’t jump to conclusions as quickly as before. You will gain insights you might have otherwise missed. I am not suggesting “not feeling”, on the contrary – FEEL – just don’t get caught up in the “reaction trap.” The reaction trap is the emotional roller coaster you’ve been riding… – GET OFF NOW!
You can get connected to the Super Communication Highway of Emotion now. Begin by centering yourself. Take a big deep belly breath (yes… let your belly stick out, fill yourself up with a fresh breath of air and then let out slowly). Now close your eyes and take another one of those big belly breaths, this time focus on the area of your solar plexus (below your heart in the center of your ribs just above your navel).
With practice, you will feel yourself connect to the Super Communication Highway of Emotion. Calm, centered and open to discover more of what is going on you will be able to respond to life rather than being caught in the emotional reaction trap.
Now that you know how to connect to your emotional awareness there is one more thing left to do. Once you’ve fully felt your emotional information – that wave or pulse of energy flowing through your body – LET IT GO!
One of the biggest tips I can give you as an online life coach is this – release it right back to the universe. This is so much better than shoving it deep down inside or ignoring it all together. Letting it go is a real key to enjoying your full and happy life. This includes happy and joyful emotions too.
Why?
As an online life coach, one thing I know is true. Change is inevitable and emotions are included in this category. Once you “try” to hang on to anything, it becomes like sand in your hands, it quickly slips away. When you simply enjoy what is, no longer looking for an outcome, you enter into a state of peace. The more you cultivate peace within your daily life the more you will enjoy your whole life. The more you will feel. When you are well versed in this process you will find the difficult emotions, the ones you might have feared most, seem to fade quickly. The more joyful ones seem to stay with you longer.
This makes for much better ride!
